if you're flying, call ahead. the temperatures are frigid across the u.s. 40 degrees below average in a lot of areas. dallas, 26 degrees. the ice that is on the roadways is not going melt. it is very treacherous. people are urged to stay off the roads whmpt you factor in what it feels like on the roads, it feels like 19 in dallas, you get the picture. it is frigid across the u.s. it's not even technically winter on the calendar. we are worried about freezing rain and sleet and just a mess across the ohio river valley, the tennessee river valley up towards the mid-atlantic and the northeast. it's going to be impossible to travel in a lot of these areas. you can see the pink here on the radar. that's where we're seeing the icy mix across nashville up towards places, tennessee, kentucky, west virginia. north of that where it's below freezing, that's where we'll see the snow. there is that mixing line throughout the day today. it will creep towards the

mid-atlantic and then into the northeast. by sunday overnight we're looking at pittsburgh, dc, up towards new york an icy mix heading into the commute tomorrow. then as we go throughout the day it will finally exit. for the next 12 to 24 hours it will be very tricky on the roads and in the air and taking a look at the forecast precipitation, we could see several inches of snow and then that icy mix here south of that. that's where we'll see the heavy rain. it's going to be a trying time on the roadways. if you don't have to travel, please do not get on the roads in any of the areas where you're seeing that icy mix. >> well, thousands of californians are waking up finding out that their personal information isn't safe. they tried to sign up for obama care and the california insurance, cover california. you know at the end of the form it says, do you want us to have your marketing information so we can e-mail you and provide extra

information for you? even if you don't check that box, you don't want it, doesn't matter. that's exactly what the folks in california do. they did not check that box and their information was still given away without their consent. >> some of these people had just hopped online basically to check it out or they hopped online and found out that a plan that they already had or found one elsewhere was a better deal so they never filled out the rest of the application and their information was shared as well. now this information is e-mail addresses, phone numbers, home addresses, cover california is saying though that no personal information like social security numbers and personal income -- >> they're calling your house. >> some people aren't buying it either. how can you trust it? >> the people calling the homes are insurance companies who have been paid off in the very beginning to get behind obama care on the promise that they will have more customers and access to information exactly like this.

apparently she was forced to resign. >> why? the website has been terrible. maryland health connection.gov crashed right after it launched. maryland, one of the first states to jump right on the obama care bandwagon. the rollout sputed along over the past nine weeks. they've only enrolled about 3,000 residents in the whole state of marry land. a very, very blue state. >> roughly 700 people have been able to enroll over the last week or so. they are saying -- >> maybe she'll get her job back. >> an improvement. right. maybe it will be a paid vacation kind of things. it doesn't sound like it. there have been calls for people like kathleen sebelius to lose her job. the president has yet to hold anything accountable at the federal level. we spoke with governor mike huckabee and he says the president is out of the loop and he needs to learn how to manage. >> i think people need to realize as bad as the website

is, and it's clearly been a train wreck, it's nothing compared to what happens when people finally get into obama care and now we're learning that, for example, in states like washington state, nine times more people signed up for medicaid than to pay for insurance. good managers understand you see the whole field of play, you take the problem, you take a big problem, break it down into little problems and you assign people and task them with the responsibility of fixing it. you hold them accountable. he doesn't check up on things. he doesn't know what's happening. every times he's asked a question, i don't know. i don't know. he saw that on tv, he read it in the papers. this is the most amazing president who is unaware of what he's managing. >> meanwhile, the state of california, no one's been fired there although perhaps they should this morning after a new report in the "los angeles times" has highlighted the fact that many thousands of californians are waking up even if they went to the obama care website in california which is

called covered california, they just simply were looking through the application, didn't even complete it, they decided they would check back later, they're getting phone calls from insurance companies based on the fact that they visited the website. they've said we don't want to be called, and they're getting calls. we understand you're looking for insurance. the government is doing what sleazy marketers do everywhere, which is sharing your information without your permission. but instead of giving that information to the folks who make the civil war chest set or stake knives or the scooter store, they're giving it instead to insurance companies so they can round up more customers. it's sleazy. sleazy. >> i would not mind getting a call about the civil war chest. i wouldn't mind a scooter. >> in the private sector, mom and pop stores, businesses, telemarketers have to adhere to the terms. they have to adhere to the do not call list, do not e-mail

carson. thank you for joining us. does it surprise you that physicians in great numbers, at least in california, are refusing to participate in the aca? >> no, it doesn't surprise me at all. recognize that physicians are trained to make decisions based on evidence and so they're analyzing what's going on and saying, this is obviously not going to work for us. it's not going to work for anybody. you know, remember, our country, our constitution, there were five physicians involved in putting that together. so physicians in the early parts of our establishment were very involved and i think it's time for them to get involved again and bring logic back to this and not just ideology. it tends to lead us to bad places. >> incentives matter. doesn't the system now implemented pretty much guarantee that the best doctors will opt out and serve rich

people and the people at the lower end of the achievement scale, physicians, will be serving people on obama care? >> well, you know, there are probably a lot of different factors that are involved in who will go where, but, you know, the bottom line is if you're being reimbursed at a rate that doesn't even sustain you, that doesn't even pay your overhiead that doesn't make sense to be engaged. a lot of doctors are compassionate individuals are finding themselves to be doing things they never intended to do since they entered medicine. >> would you go into medicine again? you've been in it a long time. >> well, i probably would not at this moment do it. >> we're all gifted with certain talent and you need to follow

those talents and i would be looking at it more from can we get involved. do we need to submit that and get involved in a way to change things for the better, then i would, in fact, consider going into it. if i couldn't do that, no way in the world. >> that is so depressing. you wonder how many promising young potential physicians out there are making similar calculations and going into something else. that's really sad. >> you know, if we don't do something about this, it's bad. >> dr. ben carson, thank you very much for joining us. i appreciate tnchts my pleasure. there's a christmas controversy brewing. will some grinches be putting an end to the neighborhood tradition for so long. we'll tell you what it is and what they're trying to do. plus, "christmas story" do

a man fell asleep on an airplane recently, that happens quite a bh bit, then he woke up, the plane was dark and locked. everyone else had gotten off. watch. >> i called my girlfriend. she thought i was crazy. i said, debby, i'm locked on a plane. >> and so they lock up the plane. i don't understand how this happened. they clean the plane, seat by seat presumably. vacuum thing out. clean up all the kids cheerios. if you bring your kids on a plane, clean up after them. come on. were you raised in a barn? you see a guy sitting there asleep, close everything down. pilots close everything down. the staff stand out in the -- what is it called, jetway. they stand there and wait until everyone is off the plane, like a register. >> did he have an invisibility cloak on like harry potter. give you a couple more details.

he was flying from louisiana to see his wife or his sister, rather, in california and he had a layover there in houston. apparently 40 million people have flown out of there last year, international airport. this isn't some small airport. some little tiny airplane. these are the airliners, this is mind boggling, isn't it? >> i don't know this guy or his girlfriend, debby. if you drink enough on an airpla airplane, you become invisible. if you mix it with ambien, you're totally -- >> i am a light sleeper. when they tell you to put your -- first of all, he must have fallen asleep -- let's think about this logistically. if you're landing, you have to put your seat up. someone must have told him to put your seat up. they do not let you put your seat up. >> right. >> wake up -- >> no, because the plane cannot fly safely if your seat is an

are there to experience art, am i right? >> absolutely. that was the goal and the objective from the very beginning when i purchased the building. it's a roughly 8600 square feet and extends a city block. >> right. with your own money to make it what it is today, and just compensation needs to be afforded to the owner in an eminent domain case. first of all, they're going to turn it into a supermarket. i'm fromphiladelphia, there are enough supermarkets, not enough art by the way. how does a supermarket provide better public good than an art studio. >> there are a lot of problems with that. number one, it's not a food desert. meaning there is a supermarket very close by which would not make it a food desert. number two, there is still not a food chain that has been identified or a developer for

this property, for this area they want to develop for this supermarket. so my contention was, number one, how did you -- how did you seize my free and clear deed, my title to my land? the property was up for sale and we had established a market value through a realtor as we looked at comparable properties. >> so what was that price? did they low ball you? >> well, the city offered me 1/3 of the asking price that we had established for the property. >> 1/3 of the price. so that does not exactly mean just compensation as is outlined in the constitution, by the way. where does it stand now in the courts? >> we were at the second level where we filed our preliminary objections which got overruled. we went to the appeals court and

fortunately for me they found some discrepancies when they seized the property. when they seized my deed they only filed on 2/3 of the building so we're hoping legally that they will not be able to go back and recondemn the building, which was not condemnable from the very beginning. it's not a condemnable building. it's totally rehabbed. it's a unique property. it's a unique studio. this is the building of my dreams and i was very concerned with how the government could seize my deed. >> i think you're -- i think you're echoing a lot of the sentiments of our viewers this morning. you've done a great job of the community rehabbing this building. it's not an eye sore. i understand you're actually painting a murial on the side o

ad. the victim was hired to be the woman's, quote, companion. authorities say the newlyweds picked up the victim in their car and then elliott barber choked him with a cord while miranda stabbed him. the body was found in an alley. the reason, the couple just wanted to kill someone together. now we have a live look at johannesburg, south africa, where visitors are gathering to honor nelson mandela today on a national day of mourning. mandela died on thursday at the age of 95. now for the first time we are hearing from mandela's family. >> the leader of the mandela household is no longer with us physically but his spirit is still with us. we have lost a great man whose greatness in our family was in the simplicity of his nature. >> president obama will travel

to south africa for a memorial on tuesday. he will be joined on air force one by president george w. bush and mrs. bush, president clinton expected to attend the memorial as well. all right. it is football time early december in college football can only mean one thing. that's championship games. to the s.e.c. championship game. auburn and missouri. remember that game last week, auburn game? this was another showdown that resembled a video game. back and forth all day. tray mason for the auburn tigers. he will finish with an s.e.c. championship record 304 yards, four touchdowns. auburn wins 59-42. they hope for a spot in the national title game. the big ten championship game where ohio state was taking on michigan state. connor cook had a fantastic day. braxton miller made sure it was a game by making plenty of big runs including a 48-yard scramble. michigan state would hold on to win 34-24.

and like many of us, we're sad ohio state coach urban meyer. >> extreme weather alert. >> frigid temperatures, snow and ice. the storm is headed to the east. over 1,000 cancellations today across the united states. the majority of the cancellations in and out of the dallas fort worth airport. janice is joining us live to tell us about this. >> have you ever driven on black ice? >> and fish tailing. >> we'll see more of that unfortunately. dallas, you've seen it over the last 48 hours. that will continue. the temperatures are still freezing. so any of that ice will remain there. people are urged to stay off the

roadways. we have the low pressure out of the southeast. as the moisture falls south ward it freezes on contact on the roadways. power lines, we could certainly see a lot of power outages in the areas you see in pinks and purples. freezing rain warnings also in some of these areas. going to be really dangerous. call ahead certainly if you're traveling by air. traveling on the roadways, again, if you can stay off the roads, that's probably the best advice. as you can see, we're already seeing the pink on the screen. mess of freezing rain and/or sleet. ohio valley, tennessee, kentucky. driving will be very messy from d.c. all the way up to boston. i-81 is going to be very, very icy. again, stay off the roads. good thing it's a sunday. maybe people won't be traveling. but it is going to continue into monday unfortunately.

keep alert. >> take it from me who had a head-on collision with a mack truck traveling on ice. do not get out there and drive. >> oh, my gosh, that's terrible. >> horrible story the past few days. a mother losing her 5-year-old child because she decided to drive. horrible. thank you, janice. the past couple of weeks we've brought you concerns, wide concerns about whether or not obama care is safe. will it be someplace you can leave your personal information knowing it's not going to be disseminated to other people. we've had a lot of concerns. the white house is responding consistently. that's paranoid talk. of course you can trust obama care. in the state of california you can't. the obama care exchanges have been passing out personal information to insurance companies which then market that information using that information, they market their services. >> these aren't even people that signed up. these are people that took a cursory glance, maybe filled out part of an application.

>> they're getting phone calls from insurance companies saying, hey, we understand you're looking for insurance. how can we be of assistance. would you like to pay us? peter levy, covered california, listen to this quote, see if you are comforted by this. he's using comforting words. he said i can imagine some people may be upset, but i can see a lot of people will be comforted and relieved at getting the help that they need by navigating a confusing process. >> and the reason they're saying they're doing this is because, of course, they're lined on their enrollment deadlines that they're trying to meet. also they're saying that we're not giving out any personal information like social security information, health information, your income, things like that, all it is is your e-mail address, your telephone number and your home address which that seems personal enough. people are going, wait a minute. how do we know -- how can we really trust that the rest of our information isn't getting leaked either? >> so, let's see, the explanations are we had to do

it. it's for the greater good. and trust us. if they'll give your personal information to insurance companies, why won't they give it to someone selling time shares in orlando or people hawking the war chests or the scooter store. >> great point. that's what they're doing. >> further, how can you trust -- i know from a tech side of things, you never open an e-mail from a person that you don't know and click on a link. how do you know this person is who they say are. after all, it is rampant. how can you trust these guys? now it could even get worse because we're moving away from paper. in fact, the navigators out there trying to help you navigate through the entire process are being told because of the deadline we were talking about is quickly approaching, december 23rd, get rid of the paper. just use electronic applications because they take too longs. paper takes too long to process. >> they're worried it won't get

through. we heard from a spokesperson for cms who said, no, we have plenty of time for paper applications. guys, get on the same page and figure out what we're doing with it. >> yeah. sad thing to report out of the new york post about the rivalry and the tension and what the paper describes as hate between the president, barack obama, and charlie rangel, congressman from harlem who's occupied the seat for the last 44 years. they despise each other. >> remember this counter photo dealing with his condo. this actually goes back a number of years where the president didn't come to charlie rangel's defense a couple of times, this being one of them, where he says he hopes he retires with dignity during that whole debacle. he hasn't retired. the feud goes back years and years before that when he was running for president in 2008. charlie rangel famously supported hillary clinton. that infused some bad blood into the process. we hear the sort of back and forth. charlie rangel wanted access to the president and white house.

as chairman of the house ways and means committee he's one of the most prominent black leaders in america. >> one of the most powerful people in america. i'm not defending charlie rangel's ethics, that's impossible. i will say this. here's the key difference between them. charlie rangel likes other people. he don't consider themselves omni potent, he listening to people. he has a natural affection for other human beings. he's not cold, remote, distant and imperious like the other person in this fractured relation. >> ""the new york post"" article is saying that they hate one another. not just that they have different political differences or charlie rangel speaking out against the irs or the signature legislation of president obama, obama care. this relationship is so fractured -- >> it's young. >> what's the reason behind this? there are people who didn't back president obama in 2008 and went

peter schweitzer was reporting. do they run the risk of isolation? >> yeah. i think that worm has already turned. ever since october 1st if you've been watching any of the white house briefings, the mainstream media has been pretty tough on jay carney and this administration because, look, you can't avoid it. the fact is that the rollout of obama care has been a mess. the website was a disaster when it first came out. the promise, if you like your plan, you can keep your plan was clearly broken. and, you know, it's just too impossible to ignore. so, as i say, i think that horse is already out of the barn. >> so how are congressional democrats feeling this morning? are they still feeling kind of panicky as they have been the last couple of months about obama care? do they think things are getting better? >> well, clearly they are getting better. better is a relative word. the website is working a lot

better in december than it was in october or november. i can't imagine that they're filled with great confidence about it, tuck er. on the other hand, all of these people in the senate were passed by a single vote. each one of those democrats up for re-election last year was a key, a single vote that decided whether or not obama care became a law or went down. they're kind of ono bomb ma care. at this point the strategy seems to be to talk about the successes. there are some, clearly. uninsured people are getting insured. people are getting extra benefits. you know, accentuate the positive and eliminate the negative. >> what about this? the administration is supposed to be the most transparent one ever yet somehow in the logs the president met one on one 277 times with cabinet members but never one on one with kathleen sebelius. is this a transparency issue or is this a management issue? if he really didn't meet with her one on one, what kind of

damage does that do? if he did meet with her one on one but didn't record it and hasn't been putting it out there, what kind of damage does that do? >> well, it's a good question. jay carney on friday was saying, look, that's the public log. it doesn't represent every meeting there was. you know, i suppose it really doesn't matter if the president was meeting with kathleen sebelius and one of her aids was in the room, that's not one on one but that's still a meeting. clearly, transparency is an issue. i think there was a better example of it this week when the administration announced that yes, in fact, the president has spent time with his uncle who's had some immigration problems. they said before that he had never met with them. it turned out that when he first went to harvard law school he stayed at his home for a couple of weeks. they said, well, why did you tell us before that he hadn't and now you tell us he has? the answer was, well, we didn't ask him before. it's an odd way to get information. >> you have been in that anchor seat for a decade, chris.

couldn't figure out how comply dated website is and they didn't know what they were doing and when their medical information wasn't going into the database and they get a phone call to alleviate some of the pain. maybe i'm being too cynical. >> exactly. the federal government will have information on you like your weight, your medical history. let's say you're 40 pound overweight. what will prevent the state from passing on that information to insulin makers so you get solicited at home for diabetes drugs. >> your personal information, your phone number is out there. >> california is saying it's your phone number, earn mail address and home address. they are saying your income, social security things like that are not being put out there. how do you know? >> in the first 2 1/2 months they are doing this. this will go on forever. you think it won't get worse. >> how do you know that the person calling you is not fraudulent? how now? by the way i'm with this insurance company. really?

welcome back. they've been some of the president's strongest and most consistent supporters but a new gallup poll over the past year the president's approval rating among hispanic voters has dropped to 52%. that's down 23 points from the last presidential election. what happened and will the president be able to win back their support? joining us now is mr. ortega. my sense is a lot of this drop in the president's approval among hispanic voters has his inability to get until integration bill through the congress. do you think that's right? >> in large part. but also i think we have to look at the economy and considering that the economy has not been favorable to hispanics.

i thought ted cruz had it right if you were in a private plane a few years ago still probably flying a private plane. but if you're in the bottom running of the economic lad dtt you're struggling. this is why approval ratings for hispanics is dropping. they are running out of patience with the president. >> the economy was as bad during the last presidential election. >> you're right. look just this weekend, evidently now the white house is talking hispanic groups and saying spanish language website is up and running and so this s-you know, six, seven weeks out after the deadline they had set for themselves. absolutely. obama care has not been good for hispanics and think about states like california, tucker. states like florida which are dropping millions of people, a lot of americans are losing their health care insurance. those two states have a big hispanic population.

geared towards career, career, career. work, work, work and they spend for years for this one part of their lives and it often takes some years and some maturity and moving on before you realize, i think there's more to life besides work. of course for most people that includes getting married and having a family, and, you know, running a home and having friendships and exercise and shopping and all kinds of things that women want to do that are going to feel strapped that they can't do if they are working full time year round. so i'm saying in this article, real balance is about having a little bit of this, a little bit of that in your life and the best way of doing that, of course, is to have flexibility in your job or working part time which is what the research article i was referring to in that article was about. >> i'm confused why this controversial. if i got up and said and it's true i rely completely on my wife. i would never be happy, balanced

or successful if i western married to my wife. people think that's great. if a woman gets up and says that about her husband somehow people think she's weak. >> i understand it. that's what i do. write about this stuff. the backlash is severe. it's really about a movement in this country that believes that the idea of depending on a man or relying on a man is somehow a bad thing and we've been hearing it really for decades that women don't need men and that's simply for most women not the case. it may feel that way when you're in your 20s but it won't feel that way down the road. the concern is you're setting up a pattern for your life that isn't going to work very well for you with that attitude. so i want to undo that attitude and have it be a real positive thing to be married and to depend on a man to some degree just as he depends on you. ate two way thing. that's okay. that's not a bad thing. also to accept that biology

matters. women and men are different. we need to embrace those differences without thinking that means somebody is weak or less than. it's not about that. >> some critics have said it's a little bit too broad to say men are this way and women are that way. do i respect this article that you've written and i want some words of wisdom. i fit into that category perfectly. i'm single. i'm 29 years old. i'm very career oriented. what's your advice in just a couple of sentences. >> my advice is as the years go on and you fine you do want to get married and settle down to understand that time will be your greatest enemy not your husband, not men, not the government, not your employers, it's time. there's just not enough time in a day to do everything. if you learn to embrace that side of yourself that doesn't -- that isn't about work, in other words the nurturing side, the motherhood, all of that it's okay to let your husband bring home that full time income so that you can have more of a balanced life and that we should

been a mess. there was one semiaggressive question about the president's management style with regard to health care. to cover himself chris matthews knowing the world was watching would have asked a couple of tough sounding questions to show he was capable of playing hardball. matthews was playing to the msnbc base and his base. he said the people who watch me are your loyalists. that's how the interview was conducted. >> no questions about anybody being fired over obama care or over benghazi. do you think this will help chris matthews credibility or water under the bridge? >> people who watch his show thought it was a great interview. people who like barack obama enjoyed the interview. i don't think it helped the president. here you have him going to the home team, msnbc, had a bunch of msnbc pun departments over at the white house along withes fox's juan williams. he didn't make much news.
